Liverpool Quiz League The Liverpool Quiz League is a member of the Merseyside Quiz Leagues, the oldest and largest quiz league in the world. (Established in 1959) There are leagues in Southport and Formby, Ormskirk, Wirral, and Northern. The season runs from September to the end of May, with a Christmas break. We run various competitions, as well as the season long league there is also a Wednesday night knock out cup, and an end of season handicap cup, but it is not compulsory to take part in any of the cup competitions.

What do we need You need a team of four players preferably with a good range of general knowledge, but as you will quickly find out this is not essential. For home games you will also have to supply a Question Master. In general thing work out best if you have a pool of at least 6 people to pick from. You will also need a venue, this can be almost any establishment but it MUST be licenced, having a drink is an important part of the Liverpool Quiz League although we do allow none drinkers to take part. Your venue will also have to have a nice quiet corner to play in, a separate room is best but not essential.

What will it cost The league fees at this moment are £35 pounds per season, but this may be waived for your first season. It is also customary for the home team to treat the opposition to a drink after the match, yes, even when they have just given you a sound beating. It is also the custom in the league for the home team to provide refreshments after the game, usually sandwiches but in my time I've been served with chips, hot pot, lamb curry and on more than one occasion a packet of crisps. All these are expenses when you are the home team, but as all matches are played home and away you will get your hospitality reciprocated in the reverse fixture. It will not cost you anything but each season your team will be expected to supply a full set of questions for use next season, but do not worry again for your first season this is not compulsory.

How is it played All games are played on a Monday or Tuesday night starting at 9 o'clock, you have the choice for your own home night but obviously have to observe your opponents choice when playing away. The games are played with two teams of four with each member in turn being asked his or her individual question. You will then have 10 seconds in which to answer your question, if you get it right you will score two points, if you get it wrong it will be passed to the opposition for 1 point. If you do not know the answer to your question, or have not answered within the 10 seconds the captain can nominate some other person in the team to answer that question, but only in this case for 1 point. It is all fairly easy really, you will pick it up quickly when you start playing.
